Learn to paddle faster enjoy your paddling (or kayak fishing) by not getting as tired when you paddle.

American Canoe Association certified Coastal Kayak instructor teaches both sit-in (sea kayak, recreation) and sit-on-top (SOT) paddling skills. All courses taught in MS Gulf Coast area unless otherwise noted.

May and June 2024 schedule:

1. Introduction to Kayaking, ACA Level 1 (6-8 hrs) - Learn simple paddling strokes and basic self & assisted rescues.
Prerequisite: A willingness to learn while probably getting wet
For: Anyone new to kayaking, or a paddler who has kayaked some (or lots) and knows they want to paddle more effectively and efficiently. Paddles enough that you want to learn basic rescues.
Dates: 1) Saturday, May 11th - MS Gulf Coast 2) A condensed 3-4 hour class is available also mid-June through early September upon request.

2. Essentials of Kayak Touring, ACA Level 2 (7-8 hrs) - basic strokes improvement and introduction to more advanced strokes, bracing, and additional self and assisted rescues
Prerequisite: Completion of Level 1 or instructor permission
For: A paddler who wants to become more proficient and a safer paddler. Someone who is beginning to push the envelope of distance paddling/day trips or beginning to venture into the bays entering the MS Sound.
Date: 1) June 22.

3. Flatwater Safety and Rescues (approx 5 hrs). This class teaches self rescue and assisted rescue techniques. Plan to get wet lots during this rescue class.
Prerequisite: Some paddling background
For: Paddlers who want to learn, practice, and improve how to conduct self rescues and assist others when needed. Various rescue equipment is covered and practiced.
Dates: Date to be determined.

4. Rolling a kayak. Learn how to roll a sea kayak or white water kayak.
Prerequisite: Have a sea kayak or white water kayak.
For: Anyone interested in learning to roll. Some people learn to roll before learning to paddle.
Dates: May 5 - June 12 (Rolling is usually a three session class. Each session is approximately 2 - 2.5 hours.) Contact me for most up to date information.

5. Trip Leader Training and Assessment. Each is 2 days of training which can lead to a nationally recognized ACA certification.
Prerequisite: Level 2 assessment and instructor permission
For: Anyone interested in guiding others on kayak day trip adventures. Successful completion of the assessment leads to nationally recognized certification.

Bring your own kayak and equipment. Rental kayaks and canoes are available for weekday classes.
