We are growing what we hope will become an International Fraternal Organization and we need your help! If you are creative, have a sense of humor and like community service, please continue to read more about this opportunity.
We are based in New York City and we are committed to community service, social networking, youth mentoring and professional development. We are new and would like to attract as many non-NYC people as possible to help us grow. Our hope is to develop something that will last for generations to come, preparing leaders, developing communities and mentoring youth.
Sigma Theta Rho Fraternity was created to be an extension to The 1City Youth Project, an organization that provides free programs and activities for youth in grades 4 to 12. Historically, once students graduated from high school, we had nothing to keep them engaged and so we created this fraternity. Today, we are about 70 people strong and have pioneer members in Egypt, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, Nigeria, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. Our largest chapter of course is New York City. So far, we are totally enjoying the people who are pledges as everyone's history and lifestyle is so different, there is so much to learn. It's also kinda cool to be able to say that we have family in so many parts of the country!!!
We need help developing the policies, procedures, activities, protocol and rituals that will establish us as a major community service organization. That is why we have extended our recruitment efforts internationally.
In order to be a member, you must first become a pledge. YIKES!!! No, not at all!! Pledging requires that you earn 116 points before May 1, 2010. You earn points by doing community service where you live, serving as a mentor to one of the kids in our program and responding to email that we will send you asking for your ideas and suggestions. What constitutes as community service? If you serve in your house of worship, that is community service. If you serve on your child's PTA, that is community service. The toughest part of pledging is possibly staying on top of the email that you will receive from us (approximately 2 per month).
Pledging costs nothing but your creativity, time and communication. If you are interested, please send us an email with YOUR NAME - PLEDGE 2010 in the subject line. We will get back in touch with you with more information. The deadline is TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3rd!
